Artist Statement
Life, in its most simple form, is about the energy one puts into connections with others and the way this impacts the environment around them. Similarly to how Buddhists think about karma, I believe that every action whether physical, mental, or spiritual has an equal and just reaction. This is an important part of the way I view life, as well as the way I conduct my painting process.
I apply each paint stroke with intent, as if to imbue positive karma into my work. This is not to say that my paintings only handle positive subject matter, as they are often influenced by my disdain for hatred throughout history. Figuring out ways to cope with these emotions while painting in positive karmic ways has allowed me to begin reclaiming my identity and heritage as a BIPOC individual. For others, I hope my paintings serve as a reminder, or the stepping-off point, for the exploration of one's obstructive burdens and to promote growth through an inquiry into one's biases.
